How GoodEnough Energy Designed and Deployed an (n + 10) Battery Energy Storage System for an Aluminium Extrusion Facility in 45 Days

With 11 BESS cabinets integrated at a single industrial facility, GoodEnough Energy demonstrates how application engineering, rigorous testing and a distributed cabinet architecture can address demanding manufacturing energy requirements.

For energy-intensive manufacturing operations, reliable power is essential to maintaining production continuity. At an aluminium extrusion facility in India, large extrusion machines, multiple motors, aluminium furnaces and supporting operations created a demanding electrical environment where grid interruptions could disrupt operations.

GoodEnough Energy addressed this challenge by engineering and deploying a customised Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) comprising 11 StorEDGE 0.25 cabinets at a single facility. From initial research and development testing to site preparation, system integration and deployment, the project was executed within 45 days.

The deployment marks a significant milestone in GoodEnough Energy’s industrial energy storage journey, demonstrating how a carefully engineered, multi-cabinet BESS solution can be designed around the requirements of a real manufacturing environment.

The Challenge: Keeping Energy-Intensive Manufacturing Running

The facility had a connected electrical load of approximately 800 kW, with its running load typically ranging between 600 and 650 kW.

Its operations included five large extrusion machines, each supported by multiple motors rated between approximately 35 HP and 100 HP. Tool rooms, office areas and aluminium furnaces added to the facility’s overall energy requirements.

With grid interruptions lasting anywhere from a few minutes to several hours and an existing diesel generator offering limited backup capability, the facility required a more robust approach to power continuity. The expected backup requirement was up to four hours, making it essential to evaluate the actual load profile and electrical characteristics before finalising the system configuration.

GoodEnough Energy approached the deployment with a focus on understanding these operating conditions and engineering a BESS architecture suited to the facility’s requirements.

The Approach: Engineering Before Deployment

GoodEnough Energy followed a structured process combining laboratory testing, site preparation and system integration.

1. R&D and System Validation

GoodEnough Energy’s R&D team began by testing four BESS cabinets in a controlled laboratory environment. Using PLC-based logic to simulate grid interactions and coordinate grid input with BESS output, the team validated the system controls before progressing to testing the complete 11-cabinet configuration.

2. Site Preparation and Load Analysis

Application engineers conducted multiple site surveys, analysed the facility’s electrical loads and modified the existing LT panels to prepare for integration. Particular attention was given to high motor inrush currents and nonlinear loads to help determine the appropriate system configuration.

3. Integrating 11 Cabinets

After the site was prepared and all 11 cabinets arrived, GoodEnough Energy’s engineers integrated the units through a common busbar connected to the LT panel. This brought the individual cabinets together into a coordinated installation designed around the facility’s energy requirements and operational priorities.

(n + 10): A Distributed Architecture With Redundancy Provisions

The selected configuration uses a distributed cabinet architecture to provide greater flexibility in system operation, with redundancy provisions designed around the factory’s energy requirements and operational priorities.

The (n + 10) configuration brings together 11 cabinets within the deployment. Redundancy was considered as part of the system architecture to provide operational flexibility, subject to the system’s electrical configuration, control logic and available capacity.

This engineering-led approach enabled GoodEnough Energy to develop a solution around the facility’s specific operating conditions rather than relying on a standard, one-size-fits-all configuration.

Project 11: Deployment at a Glance

  • 11 StorEDGE 0.25 BESS cabinets deployed at one facility
  • 125 kVA rated power capacity per cabinet
  • 261.2 kWh energy capacity per cabinet
  • 1,375 kVA (1.375 MVA) combined rated power capacity
  • 2,873.2 kWh (2.8732 MWh) combined installed energy capacity
  • 45 days from the start of the project execution journey to deployment

The installation demonstrates how multiple battery storage cabinets can be integrated into a single industrial system through coordinated engineering and site-specific planning.

From Engineering to Execution in 45 Days

GoodEnough Energy completed the project journey within 45 days, progressing from laboratory validation and full-configuration testing to site surveys, LT panel preparation, equipment delivery and on-site integration.

Close coordination between the R&D, application engineering and site execution teams helped align system validation with site readiness. By addressing the electrical requirements before deployment, the team was able to move from testing to installation through a structured execution process.

The project highlights GoodEnough Energy’s approach to industrial BESS delivery: understanding the application, validating the system and preparing the site before bringing the complete installation together.

Advancing Industrial Energy Storage in India

As Indian manufacturing facilities seek greater energy resilience, Battery Energy Storage Systems can play an important role in applications such as backup power, peak-demand management and renewable energy integration, depending on system design and operating strategy.

Through this aluminium extrusion deployment, GoodEnough Energy demonstrates its capability to engineer and integrate modular battery storage around demanding industrial loads, combining application-specific assessment, staged validation and coordinated on-site execution.

India’s First 11-Cabinet BESS Deployment at a Single Facility represents an important milestone in GoodEnough Energy’s journey towards delivering scalable energy storage solutions for India’s industrial sector.

GoodEnough Energy will share further updates from the project, including inauguration highlights and additional insights into the deployment.

Commenting on the deployment, Adit Agarwal, Director, GoodEnough Energy, said:

“This project reflects our commitment to delivering reliable, application-specific energy storage solutions for India’s industries. Completing this deployment in 45 days is a proud milestone for our team.”
